When you come to the end of a perfect day...

This post has been out there for a week or so. I am just trying to find the words....to tell my Grandpa that he has had a wonderful life. He has given so much to my family. There are so many memories, but of course the greatest memories are through the example that he has brought to us by just living his life. The Burton heritage is a story full of amazing people, my Grandpa is one of them. This man was hard-working in everything he did for his family, his work, and his church. One of the strongest memories I have is when he was there to witness Craig and I be sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. That meant so much to me. I know that he is going through a very difficult time right now, trying to find his way home to his wife and other loved ones. He has always given his family, each and every one of them his love. I just want him to know that I love him and I will try to always continue his legacy of love, unconditional love, with my own family. I love you Grandpa!

A PERFECT DAY (1909)
Words and Music by Carrie Jacobs-Bond (1862-1946)
When you come to the end of a perfect day,
And you sit alone with your thought,
While the chimes ring out with a carol gay,
For the joy that the day has brought.
Do you think what the end of a perfect day
Can mean to tired heart,
When the sun goes down with a flaming ray,
And the dear hearts have to part?
Well, this is the end of a perfect day,
Near the end of a journey, too,
But it leaves a thought that is big and strong,
With a wish that is kind and true.
For mem'ry has painted this perfect day
With colors that never fade,
And we find at the end of a perfect day
The soul of a friend we've made.

  1. spending christmas night with grandpa was quite humbling, watching dad, feed him, wipe his mouth and tell him to swallow. Then he told us the story of your kids singing and brought us to tears. I hope he finds his way home, being alone for me has been hard but its been too long since he has been with grandma.

  2. Thanks Kim. Grandpa's smile and love will be greatly missed! I can't even imagine the kind of reunion he had in heaven today.

  3. You always know how to put our thoughts and feelings into words. I think i'll just post your picture and tell everyone to go to your blog for how we feel. I'm happy he finally got to go home.
