Working 9 to 5

Jobs that I Have Had:

Babysitter
Housekeeper/Iron Maiden {literally ironed bags and bags of clothes}
Video Store Clerk
Soccer Store Clerk
Screen Printing Assistant {Candi...now will you hire me?}
Library Assistant
Preschool Teacher
Engineering Administrative Assistant
Accounts Payable Clerk
ESL Teacher
Stay At Home Mom {My favorite}
3rd Grade Teacher
Kindergarten Teacher
Substitute Teacher
Pawn Shop Associate
Papercrafting Teacher/Designer
Scrapbook Store Assistant Manager

Now that my kids are all in school, I am ready to take on another career adventure.  This has been a little overwhelming {and scary} for a few reasons:
1. I just moved to a new state and live in a new city.  I really don't know anyone and I am trying to network, meet new people through my kids' schools, activities, etc.
2. I really haven't worked full-time, in a career, for 12 years. I'm kind of out of the loop. Yikes.
3.  I have a degree, but also have an expired license to use that degree.  It has been interesting just to find out the correct information, from the right person, in the coordinating office, with the official paperwork to have my license updated. Whew.
It is also exciting for a few reasons:
1. I can do ANYTHING!!! Should I return to my 'educational background', or try something new?
2.  Somedays I want to still stay in the creative industry that I have been working in for the past 6 years, but just a little closer to home.
3. And maybe I want to go work in a bookstore, or a bank, or a cupcake shop. Hmmmm.

Then there are the days that I really just want to be home and:
do laundry {serious}
make crafts
make supper
clean my house
make fun snacks or after-school treats
rearrange furniture and decorate
read

But then the bills come and there is no moolah left for the 'fun stuff'.

What to do? What to do......
{Suggestions welcome!}

  1. Oh my goodness!! I've been going over this very same thing in my head for the last couple of years... haven't really gotten anywhere with it though. LOL. Still doing the same thing I've always done! Bein' a Mom! Which is good.. it's what I love, even know it's the hardest thing I've ever done.

    The cool thing with you is that you already are a really special Mom... plus you have all these other talents, schooling and experience to build from! You're amazing, you're my inspiration... and I can hardly wait to see what you'll do next! :) Love you!

  3. Don't go full time, maybe just part time. You can earn a little extra money for the fun stuff. But still be home to do laundry and make cookies :)

  5. My advice... make sure it is something you love! I have been teaching dance now for 16 years, and I am so glad! I can't imagine not doing it.

    It is however not so fun to have to go back into something. While I love school, and have enjoyed going back to finish my BS ( I had my AS) it is kinda stressful knowing I have a deadline, and having to sometimes chose (much more often then I like) homework over kids stuff. So if there is something you can do, and then step completely away from when your are done... I think that is the best way to go when you have kids...

    Good luck!

  8. Hey Kim, I don't know if this helps, but it's what I thought of when I read your post:

    Kind of a "be at the crossroads" kind of thing. That being said, my youngest goes to kindergarten next year, and I'm thinking similar thoughts. What to do, what to do. Good luck making the choice that is best for you! Love ya!
