{Untitled Post

I have sat for several minutes trying to think of what to call this post.  Nothing comes.  There are so many mixed emotions swirling around in my head right now and I feel like I just need to get them down. 6 years ago we left our hometown, the place we grew up, to move to the Midwest.  A place we had never even heard of before, it was the unknown.
We are in a similar place again, but now we are leaving another place that we love, that we call home.  Every time someone asks me about the move, they say it is going to be easy because we don't have any family here. 'Technically' we don't have family here, but we have our Iowa family and that is not going to be easy to leave.
Now I find myself doing something harder than the unknown, I know exactly what this is going to feel like.  And I don't like it.  I am excited for the new opportunities, for Craig's job, and the success that he will feel professionally.  But I am still numb to the sadness that I have for all that we have here.  I don't want this to be a 'downer' post, but I just want to remember:
 This family loves Iowa.
We love the corn.
We love the cold.
We love the yummy ice cream.
We love our Harrison Hawks & our Wood Vikings.
We love the backyard rabbits and squirrels.
We love our church family.
We love the thunderstorms.
We love our Pumas and our Strikers.
We love the walking tacos and the pickle rolls.
I love my creative community.
We love the humidity.
We love our neighbors.
We love our Midwest traditions.

Is there anything I missed? What do you love about living in Iowa or the Midwest? Please share!
I am sure we will add to this list over the next few weeks as we finish up our moving adventure.....

  1. Trust me when I say that I totally understand. Iowa was a tough move for us... we still miss it and everyone there. I miss my friends. I never had such a close set of friends. I miss fabric stores and Target. I miss a small school. We found new fun things here like fishing, all the trees, new friends, and a slower life.

  4. I might have teared up a little reading this post. So many of the things that you listed are things that we miss about the midwest. It was so easy to call that place home.

  5. I've made a list like this almost every time we've moved Kim. It's good to remember the things you have loved. It has also helped some to make a list of things I WON'T miss. There are usually a few of those too. :-) Love you! Good luck in TX!

  6. These family pics are sooooo dang cute Kim! Andres has been bugging me to find someone to do family pics for us. We've NEVER had any professional family pics taken. I'd like to too... but I kind of dread it at the same time. LOL Having to figure out what we're all going to wear (your outfits are the bomb! love the colors you chose and the different patterns in the fabrics) and, I don't want to pay a bunch of money for pics and not have McKynlee cooperate too.
Anyhoo.. I know how all your Iowa friends feel. I wouldn't want you to go either. I've been missin' ya all those 6 years and now I'm just gonna have to keep on missin' ya some more! : ( Waaaaaaa waaaa..

  7. I know EXACTLY how you feel. We have moved 3 times in the last 3 years... somethings just don't get any easier. But I'm sure you will be fine, and became a little bit stronger in the process. Good luck for you all!

  9. This made me tear up. So sad when you leave a place where you have roots. Where are you going? Please say Temecula, California. :)

  13. your post strikes so very close to home (sniff, sniff) . . . we're also moving away from our "home" of 10 years. It is going to be really hard to leave the dear friends we've made. I think I need to do a similar post when our move gets nearer.
Good luck with all of your changes!
